NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

‘Not Me But You’
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Established in 1969, its primary objective is to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service. The scheme operates on the principle of ‘Education through Service,’ encouraging students to actively contribute to societal development while enhancing their personal growth. NSS makes the contribution to the socio-economic progress of the country. It also provides opportunities to the students to understand and appreciate the problems of community, awaken social consciousness and inculcate a sense of dignity of labour. The NSS unit of the college is functioning since its inception by the Govt. of Maharashtra in the year of 1999 and now it has 2 units one is as Added Unit which has 100 Volunteers and second is as Self-Finance Unit which has 150 Volunteers.
    • Understand the Community:

    Enable students to understand the community in which they work and identify its needs and problems.

    • Develop Social Responsibility:

    Instill a sense of social and civic responsibility among students.

    • Utilize Knowledge for Practical Solutions:

    Apply students’ education to find practical solutions to individual and community problems.

    • Acquire Leadership Qualities:

    Develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities, enhancing leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.

    • Promote National Integration:

    Foster national integration and social harmony among students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Community Service Activities:

NSS volunteers engage in various activities such as cleaning, afforestation, awareness rallies, health camps, and community surveys to address local needs.

  1. Regular activities (work): No. of students 250
  2. Special Camps for 7 days: No. of students 125

The Students will have to work for a minimum period of 240 hours (in two continuous years) and participation in one seven days residential camp will receive a certificate on completion of NSS.

  • Special Camping Programmes:

Organize special camps of 7 days’ duration in adopted villages or urban slums, focusing on specific projects involving local communities.

  • Disaster Relief Efforts:

Help during natural and man-made disasters by offering food, clothing, and first aid to victims.

  • Awareness Campaigns:

Conduct stage shows, processions, and rallies to create awareness on social issues, education, and cleanliness.

  • Skill Development Workshops:

Organize workshops and training sessions to develop skills among volunteers, promoting self-reliance and employability.

By participating in NSS, students gain exposure to societal challenges, develop a sense of empathy, and acquire essential life skills, preparing them to be responsible citizens contributing positively to nation-building.

  • Tree Plantation, Prevention of environmental pollution and eco-conservation as well as planting of saplings and preservation

  • Anti-drug and anti-alcohol awareness Programmes & Rally as well as health and hygiene consciousness

  • Roof Water Harvesting and Bore-well Recharge
  • HIV- AIDS Awareness
  • Shahid Jawan Jyot Rally etc.
