ANTI-RAGGING CELL

In view of the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 8th May 2009 and in consideration of the determination of the Central Government and the University Grants Commission to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging, the college has established ‘Anti-Ragging Cell’ It is dedicated to fostering a safe and respectful academic environment by eradicating all forms of ragging. Recognizing the detrimental impact of such practices on students’ well-being and academic progress, the cell is committed to implementing preventive measures, raising awareness, and ensuring strict compliance with anti-ragging regulations.

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

  1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  2. Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
  4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  5. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
  7. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  8. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
  9. Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

 

The main objective of ‘Anti-Ragging Cell’ is to eliminate ragging in all its forms in higher educational institution by prohibiting it under the Regulations, preventing its occurrence and punishing those who indulge in ragging as provided for in these regulations and the appropriate law in force.

Other primary objectives of the Anti-Ragging Cell are:

  • Awareness and Education:

To educate students about the severe consequences of ragging and its detrimental effects on individuals and the academic community.

  • Prevention:

To maintain continuous vigilance to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of ragging incidents within the campus and associated facilities.

  • Prompt Action:

To address any reported incidents of ragging immediately and take appropriate action as advised by the committee.

  • Disciplinary Enforcement:

To enforce a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, ensuring that any act of ragging does not go unnoticed and unpunished.

To achieve these objectives, the Anti-Ragging Cell undertakes the following functions:

  • Monitoring and Surveillance:

Conduct regular inspections and maintain vigilance in areas such as classrooms, canteens, grounds, and hostels to deter potential ragging activities.

  • Complaint Redressal:

Establish a robust mechanism for students to report incidents of ragging confidentially and ensure timely investigation and resolution of complaints.

  • Awareness Campaigns:

Organize seminars, workshops, and orientation programs to sensitize students about the negative impacts of ragging and promote a culture of mutual respect and camaraderie.

  • Policy Implementation:

Ensure strict adherence to anti-ragging policies as per the guidelines of regulatory authorities and update institutional policies as necessary.

  • Support and Counseling:

Provide support and counseling services to victims of ragging to address any psychological or emotional distress caused by such incidents.

By fulfilling these functions, the Anti-Ragging Cell strives to create a harmonious and secure educational atmosphere where students can pursue their studies without fear or apprehension.
